Law Day Movie Night Featuring “Lincoln”—Wednesday, May 1
Celebrate Law Day with the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations’ Young Lawyer Divisions at the Mayan Theatre on Wednesday, May 1, at 5 p.m. Denver District Court Judge John Madden will give a CLE presentation on President Abraham Lincoln, followed by a showing of the 2012 Oscar-winning film, “Lincoln.” One general CLE credit has been applied for. Cost to attend CLE is $15; movie is no charge. Due to film license restrictions, this event is limited to members and their significant others. RSVP online or email
DBA Young Lawyers Division Law Day Reception—Thursday, May 2
Join the DBA Young Lawyers Division and Vincent E. Morscher, head of the attorney general’s Civil Litigation and Employment Law Department, and Steve Chavez, director of the Colorado Civil Rights Division, for a cocktail reception at The Lobby beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2. Law Day “Realizing the Dream” Contest—Deadline is Friday, April 19

Gain an appreciation for the 2013 Law Day theme, “Realizing the Dream—Equality for All,” by participating in the Law Day contest. Submit art work, short essay, short video, or other recording, while addressing the question: What role should the legal system play in ensuring that Americans protect our national ideal of equality for all? Attorneys in the DBA Young Lawyers Division, law students at the University of Colorado and University of Denver, and students in 9th through 12th grades in the Denver Public School district are eligible to participate. Entry Period for Arts and Literature Contest Extended to April 30
The submission period for the 2013 Denver Lawyers Arts & Literature Contest, sponsored by The Docket, has been extended to April 30. Put the finishing touches on your entries and send us your artwork and literature! Contest submission categories include: Writing—Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Humor; and Visual Arts—Painting (watercolors and oil/acrylic/mixed media), Drawing, Sculpture, and Photography. Denver Youth Development Court to Celebrate 10th Anniversary
The 2nd Judicial District (Denver County) Youth Development Court will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Tuesday, April 16, marking a decade of helping qualified juvenile offenders defeat substance abuse problems. The court, which provides eligible juveniles from 12 to 17 years old an alternative to detention, requires offenders to submit to substance abuse monitoring and to make frequent court appearances to update the presiding magistrate on their progress, similar to an adult drug court. During the court’s 10 years of operation, 164 clients have graduated from the program. Twenty-eight are currently enrolled. Read more.

The Legal Aid Foundation’s ninth annual Associates Campaign is underway and will run through Tuesday, April 30. A record number of 44 firms are participating in this friendly competition to raise money for Colorado Legal Services, which provides necessary civil legal assistance for low-income individuals and families.
