DBA e-Newsletter Recognized
The D-Brief was recognized for Excellence in Electronic Communications by the National Association of Bar Executives at its Communications Workshop on Oct. 21. The award recognizes electronic communications for content, design, usefulness, and ease of use. Entries are judged by a group of bar association peers from across the country. The CBA received two Luminary Awards: Excellence in Marketing and Excellence in Electronic Publications for its blog, Solo in Colo.
Colorado Lawyers for Colorado Veterans Volunteer Training Session, Nov. 5
The CBA and CBA YLD are starting free legal clinics for veterans across Colorado. The first clinic will be held Nov. 11 in Denver and Colorado Springs and Nov. 10 in Fort Collins. A training session will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the CBA CLE offices, 1900 Grant St., Suite 300, in the large classroom. The training program is free for attorneys volunteering for this or upcoming clinics. Three CLE credits are approved. The program will highlight several topics, including benefits, housing, consumer, and family law, that deal specifically with veterans’ legal issues. It will also be available as a webcast. The Awards Committee is looking for new members. The committee receives nominations for the following awards: DBA Award of Merit, DBA Volunteer Lawyer of the Year, DBA Young Lawyer of the Year, Judicial Excellence, and Teacher of the Year. 2011 Bench/Bar Retreat: Civil Access Pilot Project, Saturday, Nov. 19
The topic for this year's retreat will be the Civil Access Pilot Project in the District Courts: Limits on Discovery in Business Cases. After a brief presentation regarding the changes that will take effect in select district courts, including Denver, on Jan. 1, attendees will be split into discussion groups, which will include judges to discuss these changes as well as broader topics on whether trials can be fair and effective with limited discovery. The retreat will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the DoubleTree Hotel in Westminster. A breakfast buffet will be provided to attendees. Four CLE credits, including ethics, will be requested. Cost to attend is $60 for members, $65 for non-members, $40 for support staff, $35 for young lawyers, and complimentary for judges. 5th Annual Colorado Statewide ADR Conference, Friday, Nov. 4
With progressive and innovative methods in Alternative Dispute Resolution, the 5th Annual Statewide ADR Conference will explore the unique perspectives that individuals and groups bring to the practice of dispute resolution. Presenters will encourage reflection on the impact of emotional intelligence and neuroscience on the practitioner and workshops will offer insight on interacting with special populations, including same-sex partners, deaf or hard of hearing clients, victims of crimes, and persons with diminished capacities. Solo and Small Firm Denver Networking Anniversary Party, Tuesday, Nov. 8
To celebrate one year of networking at Stoney's Bar and Grill, the Solo and Small Firm Section is hosting an anniversary party starting at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 8. Enjoy food, drinks, and music by Chris Koltak. There will also be a raffle for a free annual CBA membership, so be sure to bring your business cards. The event is open to all members, not just solos. Strikes for Tykes, Saturday, Nov. 5
Put on your bowling shoes and come join the DBA’s Community Action Network at Strikes for Tykes—a bowling benefit for the Children’s Outreach Project. This event will take place Saturday, Nov. 5, from 11a.m. to 3p.m. at Elitch Lanes, located at 3826 Tennyson in Denver. Cost is $50 for adults and $35 for children (12 and under). Questions?
