Volunteer Opportunities
Mock Congressional Hearings, Thursday, Oct. 13 at Rachel B. Noel Middle School—Training materials provided
A Congressional Hearing is a meeting or session of a Senate, House, Joint, or Special Committee of Congress, usually open to the public, to obtain information and opinions on proposed legislation, conduct an investigation, or evaluate/oversee the activities of a government department or the implementation of a federal law. In addition, hearings also may be purely exploratory in nature, providing testimony and data about topics of current interest, and for the purpose of obtaining opinions on those issues. Students will prepare investigative responses to questions dealing with the major concepts dealing with our government. Interested in volunteering? We ask the volunteers to report to the building at 7:15 a.m. for orientation, and judge from 7:45 to 9:45 a.m. Please contact to volunteer.
Homeless Veteran’s Stand Down, Thursday, Nov. 3
Several shifts are available between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Stand Down is an annual opportunity to provide legal information, options, and referrals to organizations to homeless veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Questions generally touch all areas of law. There are resource notebooks available onsite that provide legal information, including dates and locations of free clinics, along with referral options such as Colorado Legal Services and Child Support Enforcement. Please contact to volunteer.
