Pro Bono Spotlight
Metro Volunteer Lawyers needs an attorney to assist the biological father of a 7-year-old boy who is seeking to reestablish his parental rights, which were improperly stripped from him in a step-parent adoption action in Arapahoe County. The step-parent adoption action was brought under the premise that the father had abandoned his son. The stepfather and mother, under oath, asserted that the father had not seen his son for more than a year, even after the father's parenting time was enforced by another judge in Arapahoe County two months before. The father has denied the existence of abandonment and was successful at the court of appeals in reversing and remanding the matter back to the district court for a hearing on whether the stepfather and biological mother misled the court in entering a step-parent adoption on the basis of abandonment.
