***Nominations Sought for CBA President-Elect, Deadline Dec. 1
The CBA’s Nominating Committee is seeking qualified candidates for President-Elect from the CBA’s first district, which is Denver. Candidates must be on “active status” with the CBA and DBA, and have shown participation and leadership in the bar associations and in their local community. The President-Elect nominee will take office July 1, 2011, and become CBA President July 1, 2012. Deadline for applications is Dec. 1.

***CLE Program: Business Divorce: When Partnerships Fail, Dec. 8
This interactive day will focus on the critical legal- and accounting-related issues encountered when a business is split up or wound down. A fictional case study will be used to set the stage for a series of presentations by highly qualified attorneys and CPAs to explore the critical aspects that business owners and operators need to consider. Other issues addressed in the case study include securities law, bankruptcy, and commercial transactions. For more information, click here.

***Last Day for Chief Justice Mullarkey; Márquez to be sworn in Dec. 10
Today marks Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey’s last day after 23 years on the state Supreme Court. The Denver Bar Association would like to thank her for her time and service. Monica Márquez wa selected to fill the vacancy created by Mullarkey in September by Gov. Bill Ritter. She previously served as a state Deputy Attorney General, leading the State Services Section of the Attorney General’s Office. She will be sworn in and join the bench on Dec. 10, according to Law Week. To read more, click here.

***Ethics for Government Lawyers X, Dec. 3
This program has been approved for four ethics credits, and it will be held at the Warwick Hotel from 8 a.m. to noon. Speakers include Larry D. Tannenbaum, Michael Sabbeth, and Alex Rothrock. Speakers will be followed by a panel that was assembled specifically to answer ethics questions. If you have ethics questions for the panel, please e-mail them in advance to Larry Tannenbaum. Questions will also be taken from the audience. Tuition is $50 for members and Colorado Attorney General’s Office attorneys, and $60 for all other participants. A hot breakfast buffet will begin at 7:30 a.m.

***Seniors Holiday Party, Dec. 7
Come enjoy a hot buffet and lots of holiday fun while catching up with friends and colleagues. The Annual Seniors Holiday Party will be held at the DBA offices, 1900 Grant St., 9th floor, on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at noon. $12 per person. ***Support MVL on “Colorado Gives” Day, Dec. 8
Metro Volunteer Lawyers is participating in “Colorado Gives” Day, a special day when the community will come together to support local charities. Presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank, Colorado Gives Day asks donors to give to their favorite charities online through GivingFirst.org, with the goal of raising $1 million in one day. MVL’s profile on the site should be live no later than Dec. 1. On Dec. 8 you can donate online from anywhere, any time during the 24-hour period that day; 100 percent of your donation will go to MVL. Help support MVL and its mission to provide free and low-cost legal services to people in need.

***Lawyers League Basketball, Register by Dec. 3
Lawyers League Basketball will kick off the 2011 Season on Jan. 6 and continue through early March when the division championships take place. There are two divisions, the A playing on Monday nights and the B playing on Thursday nights. All games are at DU Hamilton Gym. Last year's team captains were sent registration and sign-up information at the beginning of November. The team entry fee is $650.
