***Survey on Judicial Nominees; Your Input Sought
The Colorado Judicial Branch announced today that the following individuals are being considered for a judicial appointment to the Second Judicial District: Ross B.H. Buchanan, J. Eric Elliff, A. Bruce Jones, Elizabeth D. Leith, Norman R. Mueller, and Christine A. Washburn, all of Denver.

As a member of the Denver Bar Association, your input is valued and will be included in a summary of information the DBA will give to Gov. Bill Ritter for consideration. Names of the responders will not be provided, so no comments can be attributed to any individual(s). To learn more about the candidates, click here.

***Appellate Practice Fall Update: This Friday, Nov. 19
Please join us as our distinguished faculty of judges and top appellate practitioners in Colorado present this year's appellate practice pointers. These updates could be crucial to winning your next appeal. ***Lawyers League Basketball, Register by Dec. 3
Lawyers League Basketball will kick off the 2011 Season on Jan. 6 and continue through early March when the division championships take place. There are two divisions, the A playing on Monday nights and the B playing on Thursday nights. All games are at DU Hamilton Gym. Last year's team captains were sent registration and sign-up information at the beginning of November. The team entry fee is $650. ***Member appreciation nights with the Colorado Avalanche, Nov. 19 and 27
Support the Avs as they take on the New York Rangers on Friday, Nov. 19, and the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, Nov. 27. Denver Bar Association members receive a significant discount on ticket prices. Click here for more information on these games snd other member appreciation events.

***Seniors Holiday Party, Dec. 7

***Solo/Small Firm Happy Hour, Dec. 14
Have you hung your own shingle? Well, come hang with your fellow solo/small firm practitioners for this monthly happy hour and networking at Stoney’s Bar and Grill, 1111 Lincoln St. in Denver. Happy hour starts at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 14. There is no parking at the bar, but there is free two-hour parking one block away on Sherman Street, and there is a garage directly across the street from the bar on Lincoln Street. ***Carryover Basis: Be Prepared When the IRS Issues the Reporting Form, Dec. 7 Luncheon Program
A federal estate tax return is not due for decedents dying during 2010. However, under the carryover basis rules applicable for 2010, a carryover basis return may be required. The IRS has not yet issued the new reporting form for the carryover basis, what should you do in the meantime? What information should you be gathering, and what issues should you be considering? Attend this luncheon to help you consider the issues so that you will be ready when the new form is issued. For more information, click here.

***Nominations Sought for CBA President-Elect, Deadline Dec. 1
The CBA’s Nominating Committee is seeking qualified candidates for President-Elect from the CBA’s first district, which is Denver. Candidates must be on "active status" with the CBA and DBA, and have shown participation and leadership in the bar associations and in their local community. The President-Elect nominee will take office July 1, 2011, and become CBA President July 1, 2012. ***Nominations Sought for DBA 2011–12 Leadership, Deadline Jan. 15
The Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the 2011–12 DBA leadership positions, including President-Elect, First and Second Vice Presidents, three for the Board of Trustees, and 11 for the CBA Board of Governors.
