***Mark your calendars: Constitution Day, Sept. 17
Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Volunteers are needed to visit fifth-grade classrooms in the Denver area on Sept. 14, 15, and 16 for approximately an hour to talk with students about this important day in U.S. history. This year, the DBA is collaborating with Liberty Day to organize the event. Visit www.libertyday.org for more information. All materials, including a lesson plan, are provided by Liberty Day and will be mailed to each volunteer prior to your day in the classroom. Interested in volunteering? ***Advanced Domestic Violence Seminar: The State of Civil Law and Best Practices in 2010, Oct. 1
This seminar covers the following topics: treatment standards and assessment of domestic perpetrators for civil law lawyers, civil protection orders, differentiation of domestic violence in child custody decisions, and unbundling legal services to assist domestic violence victims. Seven general CLE credits, including one ethics, anticipated. Cost: $20, students; $20, advocates; and $60, attorneys, legal professionals, and judges. Questions? ***Donate to Law Suit Days, Oct. 21-22
The DBA Young Lawyers Division will accept donations on the steps of the Denver City and County Building, 1437 Bannock St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. Donate gently used professional clothing, shoes, and accessories. Clothing should be clean and on hangers. Donations will be accepted only at the Denver City and County Building on the dates listed above. Donations will be given to Bayaud Enterprises. Bayaud Enterprises, Inc. is a local non-profit that provides vocational training, job coaching, résumé building, and job placement services for individuals with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities, as well as to homeless or low-income individuals and families. Questions? E-mail Tony Ryan. If the weather is bad, the donation site will be moved to the second floor of the rotunda just inside the entrance to the Denver City & County building. ***Half-Day, Half-Year IP Fall Update 2010, Oct. 7
The change of pace in IP law is quickening and every month brings new case law and new developments out of the USPTO and TTAB. This year, we are inaugurating a new Half-Day, Half-Year IP Fall Update, focused on the latest developments in IP law from the people who bring you the annual Rocky Mountain IP Institute in the spring.
