The DBA Public Legal Education Department needs instructors for the “Doing Your Own Divorce” clinics that take place the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:30 p.m., at 303 W. Colfax Ave. The clinic is informational only and will cover divorce procedures and forms, child custody, child support, maintenance and property division. This public-service program is presented by attorneys of the DBA, in partnership with the Denver District Court, the Pro Se Resource Center and by the Office of the Family Court Facilitator. For more information, e-mail Meghan Bush at mbush@cobar.org.

This presentation provides information on the fiduciary responsibilities of your law firm's or your client's qualified retirement plan. Identifying and complying with fiduciary obligations can be a confusing and complex process. The discussion will cover who is a fiduciary and what actions should be taken to ensure that a prudent process is in place for administering a retirement plan, including information related to Qualified Default Investment Alternatives.

*** Davis Award Nominations Sought
Nominations are invited for the 2010 Richard Marden Davis Award, to honor an attorney under the age of 40 who has demonstrated excellence as a lawyer and leadership in Denver’s civic, educational and charitable activities. The award was established by Davis Graham & Stubbs, the family of Dick Davis, and the Denver Bar Foundation in 1992 to recognize successful and community-minded young attorneys in private and public practice, and to inspire new members of the Denver legal community. The 2009 Davis Award recipient was Monica Marquez, Deputy Attorney General, State Services Section, Office of the Attorney General. Nominations are due Sept. 1. For a nomination form or with questions, contact Margee Fawley at Davis Graham & Stubbs at (303) 892-7528 or margee.fawley@dgslaw.com.

*** East High Heritage Hall
East High School is recognizing 15 outstanding alums for induction into the East High Alumni Heritage Hall on Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Honorees from the legal profession include: Peter C. Groff, Colorado State Senate President from Class of 1981; Harlon L. Dalton, law professor from Class of 1965; Joe Blake, civic leader and chancellor of Colorado State University from Class of 1954; and Philip S. Van Cise, Denver District Attorney from Class of 1903. Tickets are available at www.Easthighheritagehall.com. Proceeds from the event will help provide current East students with the financial assistance necessary to become successful in academics or school activities, as well as toward the historic preservation of the school’s landmark building.

*** CLE — Liability Issues for Litigators: Interviewing and Preparing Witnesses, Sept. 1 — Professional Liability & Ethics Series — 1 Ethics credit offered
The area of witness preparation is a “no man’s land” between a lawyer’s duty of partisan advocacy and the court’s truth-seeking function in which case law and commentary offer very little guidance. Ron Nemirow and Nike Fleming will discuss the ethical and professional liability problems arising when lawyers interview potential witnesses and prepare them to testify in the courtroom or in deposition.

*** Free Job Search and Career Transition Support Group: "Interviewing Skills," Tuesday, Sept. 14
Attend this brown-bag group session and learn important interviewings skills from Jason L. McCord of Morrison Foerster. Participate in a safe, confidential forum where you can share your experiences, network and gather practical information to enhance your job search or career transition efforts.
