*** Random Acts of Giving: Support Attorney Cyclists, help children
The Wheels of Justice Cycling Team is riding this weekend in the Courage Classic at Copper Mountain to benefit The Children's Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood-Borne Disorders. The team is striving to reach its goal of $250,000 this year, and $1 million over five years. Show your support here and donate to one of the DBA riders. Click here to donate to the team as a whole. If you would like to ride in the Courage Classic, contact Aaron P. Bradford at abradford@lathropgage.com.

*** Final Week to Help DBA Support Homeless Children in Denver Public Schools
The DBA Community Action Network Committee is organizing their annual School Supply Drive to benefit children in need. Purchase grade specific supply packs online at EZSchoolSupplies. These packs will be prepared and shipped at no cost to you. Monetary donations also are greatly appreciated. Please make checks payable to the Denver Bar Association and send them to the attention of Heather Clark, DBA, 1900 Grant Street, Suite 900, Denver, CO 80203.

*** CLE — Professional Liability & Ethics Series: Disqualification of Counsel, Aug. 3
This one-hour luncheon ethics program is part of a CBA-CLE series on ethics and professional liability. The disqualification of a lawyer in a civil or criminal proceeding is a multi-faceted subject matter. Disqualification can be sought by a party, the court, a former client or opposing counsel. A lawyer can be disqualified for several reasons, and the defenses a lawyer has can be varied and complex. This program provides a useful framework for understanding the applicable law and procedure governing lawyer disqualification.

*** Pro Bono Spotlight
Metro Volunteer Lawyers needs an attorney to assist a disabled client file for a dissolution of marriage in Arapahoe County. The client has multiple sclerosis and fears she will end up in a nursing home because her spouse controls her disability income. The parties were married in 1985, own a home, have no children together; her spouse has a retirement account. If you can assist this client, contact Patricia Trujillo at (303) 866-9307 or patt@denbar.org.

*** CLE: Elder Law Retreat, Aug. 26–28, in Breckenridge
In its second year, CLE is offering this popular retreat format with two value-packed additions: an optional VA Benefits Accreditation program and two full “unprogram” sessions, where attendees will have the opportunity to determine what to discuss and how. Key topics for the retreat include: End of Life Decisions: The Crossroads of Legal and Medical Issues; a Medicaid Planning Panel; Litigating Financial Abuse Cases; and Advanced Family Law Issues for the Elder Law Attorney.

*** Pro se instructors needed for “Doing Your Own Divorce” Clinic
The DBA Public Legal Education Department needs instructors for the “Doing Your Own Divorce” clinics. This clinic is offered the third Wednesday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m., at 303 W. Colfax Ave. It is informational only and will cover divorce procedures and forms, child custody, child support, and much more. This public-service program is presented by attorneys of the DBA, in partnership with the Denver District Court, the Pro Se Resource Center and the Office of the Family Court Facilitator.
