Law Week is a celebration of the American legal tradition. This year's luncheon will feature the Honorable Marcia S. Krieger as keynote speaker. Come hear Judge Krieger speak, learn about a variety of organizations offering pro bono and other volunteer opportunities, and meet the winners of our annual essay contest. ***ATTORNEYS’ NIGHT OUT – May 15, 2008!***
Attorneys’ Night Out is a wonderful opportunity to network with other young lawyers, enjoy cold beers and delicious food and support a great cause! On May 15, 2008 please join the DBA/YLD at our Third Annual Attorneys’ Night Out, where we will celebrate The Legal Center’s 30th Birthday! The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People is a non-profit organization that protects the human, civil and legal rights of older people and people with disabilities. ***DBA/YLD Executive Council Applications Due May 13, 2008***
The DBA-YLD anticipates openings on the 2008-2009 YLD Executive Council and is now accepting applications. The Council is responsible for organizing and running all of the DBA-YLD's wonderful programs each year. Candidates must be members of the DBA and qualify as a young lawyer (3 years or less in practice or under 37 years-old, whichever keeps you with us longer). The existing Executive Council is looking for individuals who have a drive to serve the community and have exhibited involvement in DBA-YLD or similar programs. Serving on the Executive Council is fun, rewarding, and educational, but candidates must be willing and able to make the time commitment to meet once per month and to run and/or assist with various DBA-YLD projects. It generally requires a two-year commitment. If you are interested, please provide a letter explaining your desire to join the Executive Committee, as well as a resume to Libby DeBlasio, Chair-Elect, DBA-YLD, at libbydeblasio@yahoo.com or Melissa Nicoletti at melissan@cobar.org. Applications must be received no later than May 13, 2008.
***Roll Out the Barrels Food Drive***
The Ninth Annual “Roll Out the Barrels” Food Drive sponsored by the Community Action Network ("CAN") of the Denver Bar Association will take place over two weeks this spring: April 28 – May 9, 2008. A flyer that you can print and distribute throughout your firm/office for the drive is attached to this email with the details. All food items and donations collected will benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies. ***LEGAL NIGHT – Volunteer Opportunity***
Legal Night is a program that provides free legal and referral information to residents in the community regarding issues of immigration, employment, housing, consumer, family law, and various other legal issues. It is held at Mi Casa Resource Center for Women (360 Acoma Street) on the third Tuesday of every month from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and at Centro San Juan Diego (2830 Lawrence Street) on the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 8 p.m. No experience is necessary and dinner is provided. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LEGAL NIGHT AT CENTRO SAN JUAN DIEGO HAS A STRONG NEED FOR IMMIGRATION ATTORNEYS. Save the Date for Legal Aid Foundation's 14th Annual Wine Tasting, presented by the DBA/YLD. The popular long-running fundraiser will be held at Mattie's, 1946 Market Street (next to LoDo's), on Thursday, July 17th, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This fun event will include not only wine to sample, but substantial appetizers, great music by the ClamDaddys, a silent auction, and a rooftop patio.
