Barristers After Hours Networking Event—Thursday, Oct. 16
Join the DBA, along with the DU Alumni Council, Career Development and Opportunities, and Office of Alumni Relations, for Barristers After Hours on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Session Kitchen. Client Intake Basics—Thursday, Oct. 23
Solo practitioner Jennifer McGinn will provide basic information on client intakes/consultations with potential clients and will include information such as how to determine what type of case the client has (if any), what information you need to get from the client, how to determine whether you and the client are a good match, and how to identify red flags. Court Orientation—Nov. 13
The 2014 Colorado Court Orientation is a program geared at introducing new attorneys and attorneys new to the area to the nuts and bolts of practicing law in Denver and around Colorado. Presentations will highlight key ethical considerations for practitioners, strategies for negotiation and litigation, practical legal writing tips, common substantive issues new attorneys face, and much more. The program will feature presentations from local judges, practitioners, and legal professionals. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center in the Colorado Supreme Court courtroom. The cost to attend is $30 for members, $45 for non-members, and $20 for students. 2015 Denver Bar Association Mentoring Program
We will be accepting applications for both mentors and mentees for the 2015 DBA Mentoring program class. The objectives of the program are to: promote professional pride and identity in the legal profession; promote the pursuit of excellence in service to clients; and promote strong relationships among the bar, courts, clients, law schools and public, through the teaching of the core values and ideals of the legal profession and the training in the best practices for meeting those ideals. Mentoring matches will be for one year from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. All applications for mentors and mentees will be due Friday, Nov. 14. Click here for an application. Questions? Sponsors Needed for Fourth Annual Strikes for Tykes
The Fourth Annual Strikes for Tykes event benefitting Children’s Outreach Project will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Elitch Lanes in Denver. Strikes for Tykes is a fun, family bowling event put on by the DBA Community Action Network. The committee is seeking sponsors for the event at three levels: (1) Kingpin sponsors for a donation of $1,200; (2) Strikes sponsors for a donation of $600; and (3) Spare sponsors for a donation of $300. Great benefits are provided in return for sponsorship (please click here for more information on sponsorship). The event will also feature a raffle and the committee is seeking donations for raffle prizes (e.g., event tickets, hotel stays, restaurant gift cards).
