Help the Wheels of Justice Make A Million for Kids

From the Wheels of Justice Leadership Council

The Wheels of Justice cycling team members are already tuning up their bicycles, getting ready for The Children’s Hospital Courage Classic July 31–August 2.

Whether you’ve ridden the Courage Classic before, or never done a bike tour at all, this is the year to join this amazing team — for several reasons.

First of all, the Courage Classic bicycle tour can be as tame or as challenging as you want to make it. The event organizers offer multiple options for routes, ranging from the Family Day 35-mile ride to the Century Ride, which branches off the base route up Ute Pass for 100 miles on Day Two. The incredible, three-day, 157-mile bicycle tour winds through stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. One look at the photos on the Courage Classic ( and Wheels of Justice websites, and you can tell how much fun we have.

Second, joining the Wheels of Justice — the team sponsored by the Colorado, Denver and Boulder bar associations — is a great way to improve not only your health but also your career, by getting to know the legal and business community better. Training rides are organized every weekend beginning in May. Riders receive great swag as well as coaching sessions, bike maintenance classes and invites to team parties. The team’s annual kickoff party (TBA in early May) has become our source of inspiration. We hear from a Children’s Hospital ambassador family battling childhood cancer, and we rally behind them to reach our fundraising goals.

Most important, as a Wheels of Justice rider, you play a pivotal role in making a difference in the lives of children who are facing major health battles. We have become acquainted with many of the families at Children’s and knowing them inspires us to ride and raise even more funds. As in years past, our team donations go directly to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders to support all the miraculous work that doctors and families are achieving there, every day.

In 2010, the Wheels of Justice aims to hit the $1 million mark in total team fundraising. So far, in the first four years combined, we’ve raised $755,000. That means we need every rider we can get before the event sells out (organizers cap the race at 2,000 riders). In previous years, the Wheels of Justice team has averaged about 180–200 riders. We have a great start, with $48,000 in law firm and corporate sponsor donations as of mid-February. We have amazing support in the legal community, as you will find out when you start your fundraising.
