Picture This: DBA Happenings ![]() Palmer H.S. Wins Mock Trial Tournament Congratulations to William Jackson Palmer High School for winning the 2009 state title at the Colorado Bar Association High School Mock Trial Tournament, March 13 and 14, at the Jefferson County Combined Courts in Golden. The competition field was tough this year, as 21 teams from across Colorado vied for the 2009 state championship title and the opportunity to compete at the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Atlanta, Ga. in May. William Jackson Palmer High School competed against Aurora Central High School in an intense championship round, presided over by Colorado Supreme Court Justice Alex J. Martinez. Scoring the championship round was First Judicial District Attorney Scott Storey; and Hon. Brook Jackson, chief judge of the First Judicial District; CBA President Bill Walters; Rob Busch, First Judicial District Bar Association President; Alden Hill, vice chair of the CBA Litigation Section Council; and Kara Veitch, past president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association and former attorney coach of George Washington High School, former state champion mock trial team. As a result of its victory, William Jackson Palmer High School will compete for the national title against 44 teams from across the United States and U.S. Territories. "These kids have been working on their opening and closing statements night and day for the past several weeks," said Palmer Coach Regina Walter. "This team has given it their all and they’ve done it."
The Tooth Fairy has arrived! The Community Action Network of the Denver Bar Association’s Toothbrushes for Tots toothbrush drive to benefit Kids In Need of Dentistry was a huge success. We collected nine large boxes of toothbrushes, eight boxes of toothpaste, two boxes of floss, one box of mouthwash and raised more than $1,180 in cash donations. These donations are critical to the work that Kids in Need of Dentistry does every day in serving the dental needs of underserved children. This year, 44 firms participated in the drive and, despite having fewer firms participate from last year, the drive managed to raise more money and donate more supplies. This was CAN’s Sixth Annual Kids in Need of Dentistry Drive. CAN would like to thank IKON, the drive’s in-kind sponsor. IKON generously donated all the printing of the flyers and posters, as well as picking up the donations from the firms in the Denver metro area.
