Constitution Day Hits 27 Schools by Storm!

DBA Immediate Past President Elsa Martinez Tenreiro engages the students of Godmans Elementary during Constitution Day, Sept. 12.

On Sept. 12, the DBA Democracy Education Committee supported the Third Annual National Constitution Day. Attorneys armed with engaging activities and lesson plans filed into classrooms across the city to present students and teachers with information about the U.S. Constitution and government.

This year, 27 schools signed up for the program, which is sponsored annually by community leaders of the DBA. Ninty-three class periods in Denver focused on the Constitution, up from 53 class periods last year, meaning hundreds more students learned first-hand from attorneys how the Constitution impacts their daily lives.

Bench–Bar Retreat a Full House

More than 100 people, including 25 judges, filled a Warwick Hotel events room on Saturday, Sept. 27, for the annual Bench–Bar Retreat, an event that focuses on stress avoidance and ways to improve attorneys’ overall satisfaction with the practice of law. The Bench–Bar Committee hosts a retreat every 18 months as an extention of its monthly brown bag lunches that also bring together judges and attorneys to improve communication. Tom Delapa, the film curator for the Denver Art Museum, presented clips from different movies that related to the topic of handling stress and enjoying the practice of law. To top things off, the Denver Law Club performed a 10-minute song-and-dance number.
