Distinguished business and civic leader, Norman Brownstein, has been selected as the 2008 recipient of the Mizel Museum’s Community Cultural Enrichment Award.


Gary M. Jackson
has been honored by the University of Colorado at Boulder, as one of four recipients of the George Norlin Award, at the 78th Annual Alumni Association Awards Ceremony on May 7.


Edward N. Barad
, a Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck shareholder, recently received recognition for multiple years from The Best Lawyers in America 2008, Chambers USA, Super Lawyers guides for excellence in the practice of real estate law, and Lawdragon’s Top 500 Dealmakers in America.


Gail Zirkelbach
has received the honor of being recognized as a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation.


Edgar L. Neel
from Pendleton, Friedberg, Wilson & Hennessey has been elected Chair of the Denver Board of Ethics. The firm also announced that Richard F. Hennessey and Neel have been appointed board members at the inaugural meeting of the Colorado Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society.


The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit has


appointed Snell & Wilmer’s Neil Peck to its Criminal Justice Act appellate attorney panel. The panel consists of attorneys from all states within the Tenth Circuit.

On May 15th, at the annual association dinner, Brooke Silverthorn of The Harris Law Firm was unanimously re-elected as vice-president of membership. 

Holland & Hart attorney James Gonzales won the 2008 Independent Publisher award for the best non-fiction work in the south-east region of the United States.



Meghan W. Martinez
, a Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck shareholder, has been named to the Colorado Judicial Institute Board of Directors. Adam K. Feldman, of counsel at the firm, was recently appointed to the Colorado March of Dimes Board of Directors.

Pendleton, Friedberg, Wilson & Hennessey is proud to announce that the 2008 winner of the DU Law Star Alumni Professional Award is Daniel Muse.




Sherman & Howard has added an office in St. Louis, the firm’s eighth office collectively, and the first outside the Rocky Mountain Region. Shannon Dunham, former vice president and senior counsel at Charter Communications will lead the office.

Burg Simpson Eldredge Hersh & Jardine is pleased to announce that Jennifer L. Gardner and Stephen J. Burg have joined the firm as associates.


Fairfield and Woods announced the hiring of Harlan P. Pelz as a new director in the Litigation Department. Pelz brings 30+ years of experience litigating in state and federal courts.

matters. Timothy R. Spiel’s practice emphasizes mergers and acquisition and corporate, securities, and entity formation law.


Steve Cohen
has been appointed Leader of Jacobs Chase’s Transactional Practice Group, where he will continue to build the firm’s local and national real estate and corporate transactional practice.


Denver-based insurance recovery and bad faith law firm, Roberts Levin Rosenberg, has added Alexa Roberts Salg as an associate attorney.


The law firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons is pleased to welcome Muliha A. Khan as a new associate. The firm also welcomes Patrice M. Hettinger as its new Director of Marketing.


Sawaya, Rose & Kaplan announced that Carrie D. Thornburgh has joined the firm as an associate and will be practicing personal injury and employment law.


Holland & Hart
is pleased to welcome 22 law students from schools across the country who will serve as the firm’s 2008 summer clerks. These individuals joined the firm May 18 and will end their clerkships on August 8. The firm also is pleased to welcome attorney Scott Berdan. As a partner at the firm, Berdan will lead the business entities and transactions practice in the Boulder office.  

Davis Graham & Stubbs announced that Matthew R. Perkins, Albert J. Givray and Andrew I. Sultan have joined the firm’s corporate finance and acquisitions practice as partners.

After 30 years, Wolf & Slatkin has finally put Jon Madison’s name on the door. Also, they welcome Carol Raznick, Joseph Cohen and Leonard Goldstein to their practice.

Karen Steinhauser, a criminal attorney, has joined Isaacson Rosenbaum as part of its trial group practice.

Schafer Thomas is pleased to announce Susan D. Maez is a shareholder, and John L. Wright and Kelly L. Coughenour have joined the firm as associates

Jackson Lewis has hired Chuck Weese and  Liza McKelvey to its Denver office. Weese is litigation manager and McKelvey is a partner.

Davis, Graham & Stubbs’ loss is Anadarko’s gain as Sherry Bursey has elected to give the in-house gig a try and join Jeff Fiske, Keith Crouch and the rest of the legal staff at Anadarko Petroleum. Bursey will be transitioning from her environmental practice into more traditional oil and gas work.


Law Week Colorado, in its May 26 edition, featured a front page article on David Erickson and his new book, Early Justice and the Formation of the Colorado Bar. The book, in hardback, is scheduled for June publication through CBA–CLE.


Lynn Lehmann, 67, passed away May 17. He was a current member of the CBA and  DBA since 1973.  He was also a member of the Juvenile section and a former member of the Family law section. 

John "Jack" Carraher, 74, passed away May 27.  He was a member of the CBA, DBA, Business, Real Estate and Trust & Estate since 1959.

Walter "Bill" Steele, 85, passed away May 27.  He was a member of the CBA and DBA since 1949 and was given Honorary Life membership in 1999.  He was one of the founding partners of White & Steele.

Richard D. Greengard, 63, of Isaacson Rosenbaum, passed away on May 15.  He was a member of the CBA, DBA, Judicial Liaison and Real Estate since 1970.  He was also a member of the Douglas/Elbert local bar association since 1996.
