DBA–CLE May

The 40th Annual Rocky Mountain Securities Conference is May 9 at the Marriott City Center Hotel. The Rocky Mountain region’s premier securities conference will be presented by Chairman Christopher Cox. Topics include SEC enforcement, corporate finance, current challenges confronting Boards of Directors, audit committees and the professionals who advise them, the financial community and markets in a time of stress, and recent major developments and practice trends. Tuition is $199 for government employees; $249 for Business Law Section members; $259 for CSCPA members; $259 for CBA members; $299 for nonmembers. Nine general credits, 1.8 ethics credits.

The 17th Annual Institute on Advising Nonprofit Organizations and a Primer is May 15–16. This year’s program has been expanded to allow for an afternoon Primer that presents four lectures on how to organize nonprofit entities, how to obtain and maintain tax-exempt status, differentiating between public and private foundation charities, identifying unrelated business income, and planning for charitable contributions by donors. Tuition is $279 for Business Law Section members; $279 for Taxation Law Section members; $299 for CBA members; $299 for government agencies; $299 for nonprofit agencies; $329 for non-members. Eleven general credits.

Oil & Gas Law featuring keynote speaker Brooke Wunnicke is May 21, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. This program will give you the current overview of Colorado oil and gas law, the legislation and regulation update, the litigation trends in the industry today, and where we are with the issues of access, split estates, and surfaces use disputes. Tutition is $199 for legal support staff members; $199 for new lawyers (in practice two years or less); $209 for Natural Resources and Energy Section members; $239 for CBA members; $279 for nonmembers. Seven general credits, .5 ethics credit.

Christian Legal Society

The Christian Legal Society-Metro Denver Meeting is May 9, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., at El Señor Sol Restaurant, 2301 17th St. The speaker will be Magistrate Judge Michael E. Annual CTLA/CDLA Golf Tournament

Co-Ed Softball Return

Softball season is just around the corner, which marks the return of the most family-friendly softball league west of the Pecos. Games are co-ed, often with pre-teen and teenage children playing. For a special treat this year, games will be played at Crestmoor Park, which has foul lines and an infield that can be discerned from the outfield. Games will start in June, but it’s not too early to sign up. NALS Annual Conference

NALS of Colorado ... the association for legal professionals, will hold its Annual CLE Conference on May 3 in Denver. All legal support staff professionals are welcome and encouraged to attend. Fun Fundraising Event!

A few members of the legal community are going to work as guest grillers at bd’s mongolian barbeque, 1620 Wazee, to help raise money for the Colorado Bar Foundation and the Mississippi Bar Foundation. The event is Wednesday, May 14, and there will be a 5 p.m. seating, 6 p.m. seating or 7:30 p.m. seating. Space is limited. RSVP by May 12 to (303) 571-1824.

CBA Paralegal Committee Meeting

The CBA Paralegal Committee meets the first Thursday of the month, 5:30 p.m., at the CBA offices, 1900 Grant St., ninth floor. The next meeting is June 5. Free parking is available in the building.
