DBA–CLE December

Foreclosure Law in Colorado is Dec. 7, 8:30 a.m.–4:40 p.m. Get up-to-date information on the new legislation that goes into effect Jan. 1. You will receive guidance on critical foreclosure-related issues, such as bankruptcy, judicial issues and foreclosure alternatives. Learn about the new foreclosure laws from the attorneys who drafted them. Tuition is $149 for CBA legal support staff members; $149 for new lawyers (first two years); $199 for CBA Real Estate Section members; $229 for CBA members; $269 for non-members. Eight general credits.

2007 Appellate Practice: Better Writing, Briefing and Argument is Dec. 12, 9 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Hon. John R. Webb brings you real-world guidance on the best ways to be successful during an appeal. He will give you the tools you will need to persuade an appellant to find in your favor. Tuition is $129 for new lawyers (first two years); $149 for CBA Litigation Section members: $159 for CBA members; $179 for non-members. Four general credits.

Advanced Cross-Examination Techniques is Dec. 14, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. This program features nationally recognized presenters Roger Dodd and Larry Pozner. They will teach methods that will profoundly change how you operate and approach the courtroom. Tuition is $229 for new lawyers (first two years); $249 for CBA Litigation Section members; $279 for CBA members; $329 for non-members. Seven general credits.

Paralegal Committee Meetings

The Paralegal Committee meets the first Thursday of the month, 5:30 p.m., at the CBA offices, 1900 Grant St., ninth floor. The next meeting will be Dec. 6 and will include a CLE program, "What a Paralegal Needs to Know About a Rule 26(f) Meeting." Jan. 3 will be a regular business meeting. Free File & Serve Training

Training classes for state court e-filing will be Jan. 7. District Court e-Filing will be 10–11:30 a.m., and County Court e-Filing will be 1–2:30 p.m. Support staff always are welcome! The 2008 schedule no longer will have separate beginning and advanced classes. Two general CLE credits are available for each class. All classes are held at the CBA, 1900 Grant Street, ninth floor. DBA Nominating Committee

The DBA Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for 2008–09 DBA leadership positions, including president-elect, first and second vice-presidents, three for the Board of Trustees, and 11 for the CBA Board of Governors. Bench-Bar Brown-Bag

The Bench-Bar Committee will be hosting a brown-bag lunch on Dec. 6, noon–1:45 p.m., at the City and County Building Law Library, 1435 Bannock St. The topic will be "Professionalism in the County Court: Some Judges’ Perspectives," and will be presented by Hon. Andrew Armatas, Hon. Jay Breese, Hon. Clarisse Gonzales and Hon. Alfred Harrell Jr. This program has been submitted for two ethics credits. Cost is $15 for DBA members and $20 for non-members. Helpful Resources from the Office of Legislative Legal Services

The Office of Legislative Legal Services, legal counsel for the Colorado General Assembly maintains a website (http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/leg_dir/olls) that offers a host of resources about legislation, members of the state legislature, links to audio broadcasting of legislative proceedings, and short summaries of bills that have passed each year since 1994. In addition, the OLLS website provides several publications, including legal memoranda and law summaries on helpful topics. If you have additional questions about legislation, legislative history or the General Assembly, contact the Office of Legislative Legal Services at (303) 866-2045.

Lend-A-Law-Student Program

Lend-A-Law-Student is a law school program at CU-Boulder that matches law students with pro bono legal opportunities. For more than a decade, the program has assisted Colorado attorneys doing pro bono or reduced-fee work by pairing them with volunteer law students eager to contribute to their community. The school is working on matching students with specific projects, and are looking for new opportunities.
