CBA–CLE November

Hot Topics in Employment Law is Nov. 8, 9 a.m.– 4:15 p.m. Learn how to draft non-compete and other competition-restricting agreements that are fair and enforceable. The afternoon includes three sessions relating to federal government employment law. Tuition is $179 for CBA legal support staff members; $179 for new lawyers (first two years); $199 for CBA Labor and Employment Section members; $229 for CBA members; $269 for non-members. Effective Mediation Strategies for Litigators is Nov. 16, 9 a.m.–3:45 p.m. Join mediator and former business litigator O. Russel Murray as he explains how to shift gears from litigation mode to mediation mode. Murray will introduce you to interest-based bargaining, cover preparation of a mediation plan, review ethical issues in negotiation and mediation, outline alternative methods of dispute resolution and more. This full-day program includes a copy of the book The Mediation Handbook: Effective Strategies for Litigators. Tuition is $209 for CBA members; $239 for non-members. Six general credits, including 1.5 ethics credits.

Commercial Leases in Colorado is Nov. 28, 9 a.m.–4:15 p.m. The program includes invaluable written materials such as example lease clauses and a commercial leasing checklist to use in your own practice. The faculty will provide a walk-through of key lease provisions. In addition, they will explain the differences between office, retail and industrial leases, and how to draft for each type of property. Tuition is $149 for new attorneys (first two years); $149 for legal assistants; $199 for CBA Real Estate Section members; $229 for CBA members; $269 for non-members. Seven general credits.

CJI Award Dinner

The Colorado Judicial Institute’s Fifth Annual Judicial Excellence Dinner will be Nov. 15 at the Denver Marriott City Center, 1701 California St. Cocktail reception is at 6 p.m.; dinner is at 7 p.m. Gov. Free File & Serve Training

Training classes for state district court e-filing will be Nov. 5 and Dec. 3. The beginning class will be at 9 a.m. and the advanced class will be at 10:30 a.m. The county court e-filing class will be at 1 p.m. The 2008 schedule no longer will have beginning and advanced classes. District court e-filing will be 10–11:30 a.m. and county court e-filing will be 1–2:30 p.m. Jan. 7 will be the first 2008 class. All classes will be at the CBA, 1900 Grant St., ninth floor. Monthly Legal Nights

Legal Nights are held at El Centro San Juan Diego, 2830 Lawrence St., on the first Wednesday of every month and at Mi Casa Resource Center for Women, Fourth and Acoma) on the third Tuesday of every month. Attorney volunteers are needed to provide free legal information regarding immigration, employment, housing, criminal and family law to indigent clients. Volunteers will not be expected to take cases, only to provide legal information and resources from a legal resource binder provided. Barristers After Hours

Rule 26 CLE Program

The Paralegal Committee will host a one-hour CLE program at the DBA offices, "eDiscovery and the Rule 26 Meet and Confer: Advice on Proper Preparation," featuring U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Central Visitation "Fanfare for Families"

The Central Visitation Program will partner with Gallery 1261 to raise funds for CVP’s work in providing supervised visitation to children of low-income families in Denver. The CBA and the El Paso County Bar Association Probate Section are sponsoring a financial powers of attorney seminar, "Scandals, Agent Selection & Solutions" on Nov. 9, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m., at the District Court of El Paso County in Colorado Springs, 270 S.
