DBA–CLE September

Collaborative Law Training: Level One is Sept. 6, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. This course seeks to present the collaborative process to professionals who are interested in a comprehensive process that creates an environment in which the focus is meeting the needs of both parties and problem-solving without litigation. It also will teach the critical skills needed to engage in the collaborative process. Tuition is $199 for CBA Family Law Section members, Colorado Collaborative Law Professionals, Metropolitan Denver Interdisciplinary Committee, Colorado Center of Mediators and Mediation Organizations members; $209 for CBA members; and $249 for nonmembers. Eight general, including 1.2 ethics credits.

Family Immigration Fundamentals is Sept. 26, 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. This great half day program will provide hands-on information related to family-based issues in immigration law. The topics presented will allow for discussions of many of the practical aspects of family immigration such as how to work with couples, what is needed from the relationship to successfully complete an interview and gain a benefit, what happens when the relationship goes south, and how to work with children. Tuition is $99 for legal support staff; $119 for CBA Family, Immigration or Juvenile Law Section members; $149 for CBA members; and $179 for nonmembers. Four general, including .5 ethics.

1st Annual Statewide ADR Conference is Sept. 28, 8 a.m.–4:50 p.m. This program is designed to teach mediation through discussion and interaction with mediation experts from around the country. Participants will attend workshops, discussions, skill-building sessions and dialogue presented by some of Colorado’s top practitioners and theorists. There will be opportunities to network with a wide range of individuals with unique and diverse views about ADR. Tuition is $199. Eight general, including one ethics credit. Fourth Annual GLBT Bar Awards Dinner

On Oct. 4, the Colorado Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Bar Association will host its fourth Annual Awards Dinner at the Oxford Hotel Ballroom, 1659 Wazee St. In addition to presenting awards for the 2007 Outstanding GLBT Attorney and Outstanding GLBT Ally, the GLBT Bar will welcome Shannon Minter as the event’s keynote speaker. Minter is the Legal Director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights and in that role has successfully tried cases making national headlines. Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. Individual tickets for the event are $75. Twelve Angry Jurors

The North Stage Players are staging a play called Twelve Angry Jurors, featuring DBA member Matthew Crouch as the jury foreman. The shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 21, 22, 28 and 29. Shows at 2 p.m. are Sept. 23 and 30. They are held at the D.L. Parsons Theatre, at the Northglenn Recreation Center, 11801 Community Center Dr., in Northglenn. Tickets are $8 for ages 13 to 54; $6 for all other ages. This is a classic tale of the jury room, and an opportunity to see a live theater for the same price as a movie ticket.
