The Sam Cary Bar Association honored Marilyn Cason, Norman Early, Hon. Alfred Harrell, Gary Jackson, Philip Jones, Hon. Raymond Jones, Billy Lewis, Daniel Muse and King Trimble, during a gala dinner celebrating 35 years since the organization’s founding. The honorees were founders of the Sam Cary Bar Association.

Robert B. Holt recently was appointed to three committees in the ABA Law Practice Management Section. Holt will serve as the Marketing Liaison for the Education Board, a


member of the Standing Committee on Membership and Marketing Development, and as an Advisor for the Marketing Core Group.

Ken Fellman of Kissinger & Fellman has received the President’s Special Recognition award from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors during the organization’s annual conference in Orlando.

The University of Denver Sturm College of Law honored three alumni and one faculty member at the 2006 Law Stars celebration. This year’s honorees were Frank L. Robinson, JD 1969, Outstanding Alumnus Award; Pamela A. Gagel, JD 1985, Alumni Professionalism Award; Douglas G. Scrivner, JD 1977, Thompson G. Marsh Award; and Professor Federico Cheever, Excellence in Teaching Award.

Hon. Wiley Daniel received the American Inns of Court Tenth Circuit Professionalism Award on Sept. 9.

Holland & Hart was ranked one of the best law firms in the nation for young lawyers to work in a recent Vault survey. Holland & Hart was ranked the number one firm in the nation for Informal Training and Mentoring, second in the area of Associate/Partner Relations and ranked among the top 20 law firms in the nation as a good and satisfying place to work.

Past DBA and Colorado Bar Association President Miles Cortez has been elected to the Trinity University Board of Trustees. A Trinity alumnus, Cortez is executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of the Apartment Investment and Management Company.


S. Kato Crews, an associate with Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons, has been selected as a member of the inaugural class of 2007 for the Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training (COBALT) and the 2006 American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (ABA TIPS) Leadership Academy. The COBALT program selected 20 attorneys statewide, whereas the TIPS Leadership Academy program selected 20 attorneys nationwide.

Janette Lawler was featured in Gary Massaro’s Rocky Mountain News column, "Paralyzed mom sworn in as lawyer."

The "Seen" column in the Post highlighted the 25th Anniversary of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. Mayor Hickenlooper attended, accepting from the firm a $50,000 donation to his initiative to end homelessness, Denver’s Road Home.

The Post and the Rocky both covered the big announcement of city attorney Cole Finegan stepping down from his post, effective in December.

According to a Robert Half Legal poll, 42 percent of lawyers said that challenging assignments provide the greatest job satisfaction. Compensation packages ranked second, receiving 22 percent of the response.

In another survey, Robert Half found that 26 percent of attorneys said they would leave their current positions for opportunities to advance professionally. Those motivated by a pay increase accounted for 21 percent of respondents.
