DBA–CLE for February

When the Diagnosis is Alzheimer’s: Issues and Solutions for Counselors and Caregivers is Feb. 8, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. There are 4.5 million Americans who have Alzheimer’s disease. Nineteen million American families are traveling this path with a loved one. Are you counseling one of these families in your practice? Are you the caregiver for a loved one in your family? If yes, this program is for you. Tuition is $199 for CBA Elder Law Section members; $209 for CBA members; $249 for non-members; and $99 for non-legal professionals. New C.R.C.P. Changes is on Feb. 9, 9 a.m.–12:15 p.m. On Oct. 6, 2005, the Colorado Supreme Court adopted significant changes to the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure, which will impact your practice. Expert faculty will get you up to speed on these changes, and answer your questions. Tuition is $129 for CBA Litigation Section members; $149 for CBA members; and $179 for non-members. Litigation Basic Training for Support Staff is Feb. 15, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Learn from Denver’s most experienced litigation paralegals at this in-depth, one-day course on the basics of litigation training. This program is designed for new hires, those transitioning from another specialty, lawyers who need a refresher course, or for attorneys who are considering adding a paralegal to their busy litigation practices. Tuition is $109 for CBA Paralegal Committee members; $129 for CBA members; and $149 for non-members. Six general credits.

CLE for One Night of Volunteering

To kick-off Legal Night at Mi Casa, the Denver Bar Association is sponsoring a CLE on Feb. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m., entitled "Great Opportunities for Pro Bono Work." This is a free CLE for lawyers interested in volunteering for Legal Night at Mi Casa. The event will feature Justice Gregory Hobbs, and will include a discussion of immigration and family law issues as well as general information on doing pro bono legal work. The program offers 2.5 CLE credits, and will be held at the DBA offices, 9th floor. It is free to everyone who commits to participate in Legal Night at Mi Casa at least once. Legal Night is a monthly open house, which provides free legal and referral information regarding immigration, employment, housing and family law. National Writing Competition for Lawyers

Want to be a writer? SEAK, Inc. is sponsoring the Fifth Annual National Fiction Writing Competition for Lawyers with a cash award of $1,000 for the first prize winner. A short story or novel excerpt from the legal fiction genre should be submitted by June 30. Submissions should not exceed 2,500 words and must be written by a licensed attorney. Entry is free.
