Picture This: DBA Happenings ![]() The Bench Bar Retreat
The DBA’s annual Bench Bar Retreat was April 2. This year’s theme, "Working Under Fire: Attacks on the Legal Profession and Their Impact on the Practice" drew a crowd of 120. The day’s program covered topics such as, "Public Perceptions of the Legal Profession," "The Budget Crisis," and "The Impact of High Profile Cases."
Nellie Mae Scholarship Scuttle 5K This event, founded by third-year Sturm College of Law student and Student Bar Association President Heather Gwinn, raised approximately $9,000 to benefit the Loan Repayment Assistance Program and the Bobbie Lou Mae White Scholarship Fund. Close to 300 runners and walkers participated. LRAP scholarships enable law graduates to enter public interest positions when they graduate. These positions vary from environmental activism to child protection to prosecutors and public defenders. The Bobbie Lou Mae White Scholarship Fund, founded by now-third year Sturm College of Law student, Berry White, was established to provide scholarships to those students planning to pursue positions as prosecutors.
