“Desserts and Delights” Auction

The Community Action Network’s (CAN) Third Annual “Desserts and Delights” auction is Nov. 12 at the Warwick Hotel, 1776 Grant St., 5:30–8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Proceeds benefit Work Options for Women (WOW).

CBA Bill of Rights Committee Event: Nov. 15

“The War on Terror and the Right to Legal Access” is Nov. 15. Come hear Geremy Kamens, a member of the Virginia public defender litigation team that represented Mr. Hamdi in the recently decided case of Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, et. al. Supreme Court No. 03-6696. He will speak about the results in the case and about the issue of the U.S. government holding detainees without the filing of any charges, on the premise that they are enemy combatants who have no right to relief in the American legal system. Legal Night at the Center

Are you having trouble meeting your aspirational goal of 50 pro bono hours for the year? Look no

Legal Night at the Center is an opportunity to serve the community without getting locked into an expensive, time-consuming commitment.

You need only a couple hours each month to provide legal guidance in the areas of family, landlord-tenant, immigration, employment, and housing law.

Court Orientation

Sponsored by the DBA and the DBA YLD, Court Orientation is Thursday, Nov. 18, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., for attorneys new and old who want to learn more about the rules and procedures of domestic relations, civil cases, and the Denver District and County Courts. Judges will also give tips about their courtrooms.

Meet at the Denver City and County Building, 1437 Bannock, in the jury assembly room. Cost includes lunch: $38 for DBA members and $48 for non-members.
