DBA Award of Merit Winners

DBA Award of Merit Winners

We have a stellar group of Denver Bar Association members that we’re honoring at the Annual Party June 9. We invite every DBA member to come, bring guests, and celebrate the careers of these wonderful people. The place to be is the Denver Art Museum at 5:30 for free food and drink and the best schmoozing.
As an added incentive, President Joe Dischinger will be reading no long lists and the only “formalities” will be giving awards to our four honorees and passing the giant presidential gavel from Joe to president-elect Mary Jo Gross.
So: More time to party. Also, be sure to check out the special book signing—six published authors from the legal community will be there to give out their autographs. It’s all to benefit the Legal Aid Foundation.

YOUNG LAWYER OF THE YEAR goes to Megan Brynhildsen, chair of the DBA YLD. She has orchestrated Law Suit Days, the Winter Festival (formerly Christmas in January) Barristers After Hours, and the Law Explorers Program, which teaches high school kids about the law. She’s on the DBA Board of Trustees. She volunteers for Law Line 9, Law on the Mall, Mock Trial Competitions, and the annual wine tasting. She coordinated the MDA lockup that raised $48,000 last year for that charity. She was in charge of the YLD newsletter for several years, and sits on the Legal Aid Foundation Board. VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR is Stacy Carpenter, partner at Baldwin & Carpenter. Stacy has been on the CBA Board of Governors, the Pro Bono Task Force, the Metro Volunteer Lawyers board (vice-president) and the Legislative Policy Committee. She was second vice-president of the Board of Trustees, co-chair of the Barristers Ball, and coached the Manual H.S. Mock Trial Team. A huge task was as chair of the DBA Legal Service Committee, where that group looked at all DBA pro bono activities and made a recommendation to the Board about how to best use volunteer’s help.

Denver County Court Judge Herb Galchinsky will receive the JUDICIAL EXCELLENCE AWARD. He has been on the Availability of Legal Services Committee, the Judicial Selection and Benefits Committee, the Bench/Bar Committee and annual Bench/Bar Retreat Committee, helping that function be successful every year. He speaks to all kinds of groups—on Law Day last year, he was the keynote speaker for the DBA Young Lawyers. He has lectured at the DBA Tuesdays at the Bar functions, and has given talks at DU and CU law schools. He was a panel member at the Denver Press Club. The AWARD OF MERIT goes to Brooke Wunnicke, Of Counsel with Hall & Evans. Brooke has authored and co-authored countless articles and books. She was an adjunct professor of law at DU from 1978 to 1997. She’s lectured at local, state and national forums. She possesses a cornucopia of awards: The DRI National Award, Potter Lifetime Professional Service Award, CBA Award of Merit, CU Law School William Lee Knouse Award, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association Lathrop Trailblazer Award, the Colorado District Attorney’s Council Award for Distinguished Service three times, the Eleanor P. Williams Award from the Arthritis Foundation, and many more.
