Public Legal Education

The 1999-2000 Mock Trial Denver Regional competition hosted ten teams at the City and County Building on February 25 and 26. Kent Denver A won the competition. Thanks to Elsa Martinez Tenreiro, chair of the Mock Trial Committee, and those judges who volunteered: Bruce Menk, Julie Evans Anderson, Dana Murray, Rebecca Love Kourlis, Mel Okamoto, John McMullen, John Criswell, David Cain, Paul Quinn, Doris Burd, Celeste C de Baca, Alan Bucholtz, Brian Campbell, Frank Plaut and Robert Tobias.

On Feb. 2, Lawline 9 celebrated its sixth anniversary with KUSA Channel 9. Each Wednesday night, bar association volunteers listen to callers' legal questions and give them information. Above, James Aab and Dave Sprecace have a piece of anniversary cake with their phone call.

Community Concerns Committee

Tom Kim (left) and Chris Little, organizers of the "Roll Out the Barrels" Food Drive, juggle with excitement over the drive's success. About 68 firms and friends of the legal community participated in this first annual food drive. The bar association gathered 4,249 pounds of food and $625. The Food Bank of the Rockies has enough food for 6,148 meals for the homeless. Thanks again to everyone, and we'll do it again next year!

Law on the Mall

The Young Lawyers will join the American Bar Association in celebrating Law Day. Celebrate by participating in Law on the Mall (April 24-28), an annual event where the YLD and other metro area groups offer free legal services and referrals to passersby on the 16th Street Mall. Help give the public a positive impression of lawyers. Call Ron Ledgerwood, (303) 758-1090.

Young Lawyers Annual Luncheon

Multidisciplinary Practice or MDP, is a kind of "one-stop shopping," where clients would receive attorney services, financial planning and accounting in the same facility from one firm. Learn more about this coming trend and its implications for Denver attorneys at the YLD Annual Ethics Luncheon on Wednesday, May 10, at 11:30 a.m. It takes place at the Denver Athletic Club, 1325 Glenarm Place. Bob Keatinge of Holland & Hart and DBA President-Elect Susan Smith Fisher will tell you what Multidisciplinary Practice could mean for Colorado. The program is $25 and worth two ethics cle credits. Call Meredith Frinsko at (303) 824-5327 for more information.
