Welcome to the NEW www.cobar.org
by Mel Reveles
The CBA has a new site with a spiffy new look and many new functions for members.
By Mel Reveles, Director of the CBA Internet Department
You’ve seen the face of cobar.org change over the years. This time, the Web site has been updated, enhanced and completely redesigned. In order to deliver up-to-date information, the CBA developed a database-driven dynamic Web site. Because of the work done to the Web site, the content will be more current and useful to you.
The CBA has added some new items like the member directory, and made some of the old features, like the searchable calendar, even better. The Web site is also easier to navigate. Use the dynamic drop-down menus to quickly find what you’re looking for. (Hint: If you don’t see these menus or if the additional menu items don’t drop down when you hold your mouse cursor over it, you will need to upgrade your browser. Microsoft Internet Explorer, microsoft.com, and Netscape Navigator, netscape.com, are free downloads.)
For the full benefits of the new site, always log in. As a member of the Colorado Bar Association you will enjoy many of the enhancements of the Web site that aren’t available to non-members. Use all six digits of your CBA member number on your membership card and your last name (case sensitive) to log in for the first time (you can change the password once you’ve logged in). When you log in to cobar.org you will be able to modify your Web directory listing, and access current and past issues of The Colorado Lawyer (TCL), Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals opinions from October 1996 to the present, and various articles by CBA sections. As a member, you will have more searching options on cobar.org. In addition to full-site searching, you will have the option to search only TCL or the court opinions. If you belong to a CBA section, you will be able to search that section’s site. With these additional search options you will be able to find the information you’re looking for much faster.
Don’t forget to sign up for a listserv. The CBA has many available to members (don’t forget to log in) like the judicial listserv, COBARlink and court opinions listserv. To find a listserv that interests you, go to the "Member Resources" menu item and select "Legal Resources" then "CBA listservs."
The CBA calendar is up-to-date and has more detail.
The calendar opens to a two-week view of all CBA-related and CLE events. Don’t see the event you’re looking for? You can find events by city, areas of law, CBA only or CLE only, and date or title of the event.
With the new Member Directory—manage your own listing. As a CBA member, you are listed in our member directory. Log in to cobar.org to verify that your information is correct. If it isn’t, you can edit it online. The information in the Online Directory is only for your online listing. If you wish to change information like your CBA mailing address, go to http://www.cobar.org/infomgmt.cfm.
The new directory will make it easier for your peers as well as the public to find you. The directory will do a basic search by practice area, city, state, county and last name. Select the "Advanced Search" option to search an attorney registration number, second language, zip code, country, first name, firm/organization name or other state admitted to practice. Important note: In order for the directory to locate your record by practice area, you need to login to cobar.org and select your practice areas. You may choose five practice areas.
Enjoy the new cobar.org!
