Description: The presentation will provide information on The Rules for Administration of The Protection of Persons from Restraint Act created by The Colorado Department of Education. We will discuss state seclusion and restraint laws and policies for schools and where Colorado stands nationally. We will also discuss some case examples and the results of The Legal Center’s project and data collection around restraint and seclusion in Colorado public schools.
Jennifer Purrington is a staff attorney with The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People. She has worked with The Legal Center for almost two years now. Jennifer coordinates the program, Protection and Advocacy for Assistive Technology (PAAT) and works in several others programs, advocating for individuals with mental illness (PAIMI), individual rights (PAIR), and special education. She graduated from The University of Denver's Sturm College of Law in May of 2012. Prior to her law school experience, she was a special education teacher and Americorps member, teaching in California, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.
